One Planet Summit
September 26, 2018
New York City

In December 2017, President Macron, António Guterres, and Jim Yong Kim launched the One Planet Summit to accelerate the implementation of the Paris agreement and engage public and private actors in the race against global warming. Facing the emergency of the ecological, social, and economic impacts of climate change, members of the One Planet Coalition called for concrete initiatives and solutions to address climate change through 12 international commitments.

Climate action needs a shared responsibility and requires cooperation between governments, leaders from the public and private sectors and civil society. In a continued effort to spur global leaders on the next steps necessary to avert climate disruptions, the 2018 One Planet Summit will take place on the afternoon of September 26th in New York City, alongside the 73rd session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Heads of State, business leaders, and other non-state actors, will once again come together to account for the implementation of commitments made at the One Planet Summit and build trust and collaboration for ongoing multilateral climate action. It will celebrate progress made and further engage public and private actors to raise our ambition.

The One Planet Coalition’s roadmap will deliver concrete actions that contribute to scaled-up impact globally. It will chart the way forward to mobilize the financial sector towards low carbon and resilient solutions and the protection of the most vulnerable; harness technology and nature based solutions; and build the business model of a fair and sustainable ecological transition.

Following the California Global Climate Action Summit and in the lead-up to the UNFCCC COP 24 in December and United Nations Secretary-General’s Climate Action Summit in 2019, the One Planet Summit will drive new momentum and pave the way for further commitments.

The One Planet Summit will show how high-level institutional decision-makers as well as individual citizens can all work as one planet to deliver solutions to mitigate the effects of climate change and invent our collective future.
